SUNDAY, MAY 14, 2023 AT 12:30 PM MDT– (In-Person Only)
Please note the change in venue: This month’s meeting will take place at New Terrain Brewing Company, 16401 Table Mountain Parkway, Golden 80403. We are unable to provide virtual access to this event from this venue. Our apologies.
The Indian Peaks and Denver Chapters of the Colorado Archaeological Society invite you to a joint meeting on Sunday, May 14th! Join us at New Terrain Brewing in Golden at 12:30 pm for a wonderful afternoon of guest speakers and time with your peers!
New Terrain offers beer as well as non-alcoholic options for purchase. There will also be a food truck at the brewery for food options.
Our speakers will start promptly at 1 pm with Jon Hedlund, Senior Archaeologist at ERO Resources. He will share about his past and future work at a rock shelter site in nearby Douglas County.
Next, we will screen a short film, titled “Digging for Truth.” This short video is about the archaeological excavation that took place on the Auraria Campus in Denver, Colorado in the fall of 2022. The video highlights the concept of community-based archaeology, in which the people who are being investigated in the excavations are involved in all aspects of the project, including planning, implementation, and interpretation. The film captures the students, faculty, and community members as they work together to explore the history of the Displaced Aurarian community that was removed to make way for the building of the Auraria Campus in the 1970s. Project partner Gene Wheaton or Brandon Turner will be on hand to answer any questions.
Lastly, Archaeologist Christian Driver will share about his work at the Peoples’ Crossing.
We are excited to share this slate of presentations and look forward to seeing you there! Please send any questions you may have to Amy Gillaspie (amy.gillaspie@ucdenver.edu) or Stacy Greenwood (stacygreenwood@comcast.net).
