Archaeology Lab Curation Project

DC-CAS OCTOBER 14, 2024 GENERAL MEETING

- 6:00-8:00PM MST  (IN PERSON ONLY)

NOTE:  October’s general meeting will be held in the Emery Archaeology Lab located on the 3rd Floor, History Colorado Center, 1200 N. Broadway, Denver 80203.  Please enter and exit History Colorado Center through the Staff/Security Entrance located on the Lincoln St. side of the building.  Walk through the large doors to the foyer.  Walk straight across the foyer to the elevators and go to the 3rd Floor.  Once off the elevator, turn to your left and walk a short distance to the entrance for the Zoom In exhibit located on the left-hand side.  Turn left into the exhibit and you will see an entrance to your left.  Go through the door and the Emery Archaeology Lab is on your right across from the restrooms.

Are you one of those people who sees a great exhibit at a museum and really wants to get your hands on all that cool stuff?  Have you wondered about what happens to the artifacts that are so proudly displayed by the archaeologists standing at a dig site?

Denver CAS will be starting on a curation project for our meeting on October 14th in the Emery Archaeology Lab at History Colorado.   The PAAC program has multiple boxes of archaeology “stuff” that need to be inventoried, analyzed, and turned into teaching kits that PAAC and CAS can then use for public outreach and teaching.  During the project, you will learn what happens when a museum receives a donation, be it from a dig or someone’s attic.

The program will be led by:

  • Dr. Sarah Allaun, the Assistant State Archaeologist and State PAAC Coordinator for Colorado.   Sarah Allaun received her B.A. in Anthropology at the University of Central Florida in 2015.  In 2019, she completed her M.A. in Anthropology at the University of Wyoming and received her PhD in 2024.

  • Shawn Faucett, the current Preparator and Emery Archaeology Laboratory Coordinator at History Colorado Center.  He received his B.A. from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Major in Archaeology and a Minor in Geographic Information Systems.

Current lab volunteers will also be on hand to provide assistance.

Come down to History Colorado on October 14 from 6-8 pm and get your hands on some archaeology.

Please also join us for a pre-meeting get together at 5:00pm at Stoney’s Bar and Grill (1111 Lincoln St.)
