DC-CAS September 9, 2024 General Meeting – 7:00 PM MST (Hybrid)

Speaker: Savin Weera, Master’s Degree – Greek and Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology

Abstract: This presentation is an overview of Weera’s Master’s Degree thesis which explores plausible Hellenistic influence in ancient Sri Lankan religious architecture within the framework of Transmission of  Design. Weera’s study is focused upon three significant actions as he analyzes the structures, Tholos and Vatadage: An architectural comparison, a symbolic function comparison, and a possible paths of influence investigation of how Ancient Greeks would go to Sri Lanka.Weera will be your tour guide taking you through Greece, Sri Lanka, and everywhere in between.  There will be numerous new terms and names to learn, but don’t worry as Weera will be explaining everything along the way so one gets lost.

Bio:  Savin Weera completed his Master’s Degree in Greek and Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology in 2021 at the University of Athens in Athens, Greece.   He currently works at the Emery Archaeology Laboratory at History Colorado Center while pursuing a career in GIS and archaeology.
