2026 Annual CAS Conference

On October 2-5, 2026, the Hisatsinom Chapter will be hosting the 2026 Annual CAS Conference in Cortez, CO. at the Lamp Post Creative Learning Center, the Crow Canyon Campus and the Montezuma Heritage Museum.

                                                   A Special Event for a Special Year

      Some years ask more of a gathering. In 2026 — America's 250th year, Colorado's 150th, the 250th anniversary of the Domínguez–Escalante expedition, and the 120th of the Antiquities Act — the archaeological community gathers in the most archaeologically dense landscape in the United States for four days, five partner organizations, and more than twenty activities under one theme, *Inventing our future on a changing heritage stewardship landscape*.

     These anniversaries mark only the most recent chapter in the far longer story of the Americas' Indigenous peoples — a story this conference holds at its center. From a keynote by the first Native American U.S. Poet Laureate, to a service day and tour led by the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Park, to workshops built on decades In collaboration with Hopi farmers and Indigenous educators, Native voices carry this Confluence. And though the Confluence is built around the Colorado Archaeological Society's Annual Conference, it is not built only for archaeologists — it is public archaeology in practice. Teachers and students, museum and

land-management professionals, tribal members, avocational archaeologists, writers, and neighbors who simply love this landscape: the program was designed with all of you in mind, and no membership in anything is required to take part.

      The weekend is built as one continuous experience: Saturday brings the whole heritage community together; Sunday lays the groundwork and hands you the tools; Monday asks what the changes mean and where the inquiry should go. Come for a day or come for all of it.
